In 2023 the city's HR department started offering free annual memberships to the city's public bike share program. That year the city's Engineering Department purchased two e-bikes and the Department of Community Services purchased one e-bike for employees to use.

The City will purchase 5 to 10 bicycles (majority regular with perhaps one ebike) and establish a bike check‐out program for employees to use bikes to commute to meetings or other nearby appointments. This strategy expands upon the efforts of the Redevelopment Department, DOCS, and Engineering, which have their own bikeshare initiative.

    E-bike share

In addition to the public bike share program, the Community Relations and Economic Development Dept (CRED) has two loaner e-bikes that departments can use to determine if an e-bike will work for their department. At the time of this writing, the Engineering Dept has utilized this program and is now in the process of purchasing an e-bike from a local bicycle shop.

    Employee Bikeshare

The City of Carmel has opened up its public bike share program to City employees. The bike share program currently has 50 bikes and 7 stations, one of which is located in the parking lot of City Hall. As part of the employee's benefits package, the City has given every City employee a one-year membership. Employees can now ride to offsite meetings, instead of driving, or simply ride for their health.
