Departments have completed an assessment of current usage of gas powered equipment, battery powered technology, and equipment availability. Where feasible, equipment has been converted to battery powered, and battery powered is used over gas powered equipment as much as possible. Current available equipment is limited to lighter duty work with no solutions for heavy duty use at this time. Departments continue to assess the availability to add appropriate equipment, but not able to implement a complete "no gas powered" policy at this time.

Description

This strategy requires the replacement of gasoline powered lawn mowers and other City-owned yard equipment with electric equipment when gasoline powered equipment is retired. Replacing this equipment will improve air quality and set the example for the rest of the Carmel community to adopt similar practices. This strategy expands upon the existing Street Department effort to replace a portion of their propane mowers with electric ones.
